Classroom Updates

Hi Families!

Last week we filled our classroom jar for being safe, respectful, and responsible. We voted and our classroom celebration will be to make slime this Friday afternoon!

I also wanted to share that we started homework this week. You’ll see a half-sheet homework log in your child’s home folder. This week students are expected to read for 20 minutes, write down the title, and have you sign off to confirm that they completed their homework. A reminder that homework goes home every Monday and is due back on Friday.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Our Week

Last week in science we started our magnet unit. We began by watching putty surrounding two different magnets.

With partners, we acted as scientists and tried to think about two questions: 1. How does the putty surround the magnets? 2. Why does the putty surround the cube magnet faster than the ring magnet? Students drew diagrams with labels and wrote down observations, wonderings, and thoughts. We’ll continue to think about these questions during the remainder of this unit. Ask your child to share their thinking with you!

Friday was World Read Aloud Day! We were lucky enough to invite Mrs. Morin, our math coordinator for the district, in to read “The Man Who Walked Between the Towers” and “The Princess and the Pig.”

Updates

This Wednesday, December 5th is an early release day. Students will have lunch and recess at MBS, and will be dismissed at 12:45.

On Friday we were lucky enough to have some Four Winds visitors! They brought in snags, or dead/dying trees, and Rigatonis got to tear them apart to see what lived inside!

Quick Reminders

Hi there families,

Just a few reminders…

  1. Oscar is full and MBS Ospreys have earned an all-school celebration. Tomorrow will be Pajama Day!
  2. We ALSO earned a classroom celebration! We voted and next Thursday we will have a technology period. A letter will be sent home with more details.
  3. Last but not least, if your student trick-or-treated for Unicef, please encourage them to bring those in tomorrow!
